I believe anyone who doesn’t take nicotine and its ability to poison you seriously is just a walking talking idiot and when you are in conversation with these low life’s roll your eyes and walk on. The Vape industry is under assault and what has become common practice to leave out valid facts when arguing in order to win the debate.
So there is politics in nicotine and as with all politics the weeping cry’s from liberals “What about the poor children?” Ladies and Gentlemen when your 8 year old gets out from in front of the TV and gets a job I will spend my time and money worrying about the effects on someone who would NEVER be my customer, we do not focus on or even dip into that market one its illegal and there is no profit in it. While that sounds money grubbing its more libertarian in that if you’re responsible for your income you are responsible for your person decisions. E-juices in Fruit Loop flavor is not targeted to the 8 year old but to the 30 year old who has been told they can go out in public in the Jammies. Children safety is a concern and industry responded immediately to that concern. Its the outliers who don’t have the money to conform or feel their personal attitude on the subject trumps common sense and law. These people keep getting shown as the example of why the industry needs to be criminalized.
Now I have to get belligerent right off the bat about this because of a Center for Poison control memo which I sought out and its cherry picked wording as it seeks to inform via lack of information. Its time to go on the war path but for a First Amendment issue. Government agencies can not keep feeding legislators half-truths. You can not define it as a debate on the issue when one side is liar. There is zero ability to reach a positive outcome for either side.
Banning Dihydrogen Oxide (Dihydrogen = H2 Oxide = O = H2O) banning water but it sounds scary enough.
A 1983 the Durand Express, a weekly newspaper in Durand, Michigan, reported that “dihydrogen oxide” had been found in the city’s water pipes, and warned that it was fatal if inhaled, and could produce blistering vapors. The first appearance of the hoax on the internet was attributed by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette to the so-called “Coalition to Ban Dihydrogen Monoxide”, a parody organization started by UC Santa Cruz student Craig Jackson following the on-campus postings and initial newsgroup discussions.
This new version of the hoax was created by Eric Lechner, Lars Norpchen, and Matthew Kaufman—housemates while attending the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1989, revised by Jackson in 1994, and brought to widespread public attention in 1997 when Nathan Zohner, a 14-year-old student, gathered petitions to ban “DHMO” as the basis of his science project, titled “How Gullible Are We?”
While it sounds funny to ban water sitting in front of the computer, do not forgot. The reason this is a notable HOAX is people and legislator’s ACTED ON IT. Petitions were signed bills created. Cry’s in the streets “What about the poor children”
So lets get back to this press release from AAPCC (American Association of Poison Control Centers) This organization is speaking on Behalf of ALL poison control centers. The press release is designed to be skimmed and leave an impression of fact without actually providing any. The press release opens with a straw man non committal to a fact that in New York another newspaper reported(Note not a coroners report, sheriffs report or any other agency that would provide facts and science.) MIGHT have died from overdose of nicotine. Again without any facts to back up any of that statement because its I heard from a friend of a friend gossip that the rest of the Press release bases its recommendations on.
The last line points out how it recommends Child safety bottles on fluid containing nicotine. Duh and I say to the manufactures who needed to be told this and there were many out there. Plastic bottles and easy squeeze caps making the juice to similar to the juice pack candies. This is a no brainer and has nothing to do with Vape itself. This should be an Government standard for anyone who obtains license to manufacture and sell across state lines.
See the memo didn’t mention if the offending fluid came from guy selling out of his car illegally. That lack of fact problem. Or is the kid one of the owners children and touched raw nicotine. Context is very important. So to put some context to this the high incident in poisoning calls according to their own statics is due to Cosmetics. That’s right make-up ding ding we have a winner. That’s an established industry with legs under it and isn’t’ going to stand for this 2 guys with a fax machine and a title on mom’s bedroom door launching an assault.
The part that boils me over and had me providing the old hoax as example was the math of amount of nicotine it takes to cause death in a child under 6. 1 teaspoon according to their math. Well while nothing else they have done or said has been honest let us take their math at face value. How much nicotine is in your mixed out 15 ml bottle at 24mg strength.
You see it takes 5 ml of fluid to equal 1 teaspoon we do not measure nicotine by the teaspoon full because a maxed out bottle is .36 ml 5/.36 = 13.88 Did the poison control center mention a child under 6(we have to say this because body weight becomes a factor) would have to ingest 14 full bottles of e-juice at the max out nicotine level in order to become at RISK for death. With the modern equipment allowing for wattage control the ability of the vape shop to reduce max nicotine per bottle down to .6% enlarges the safety factor for their business. Bringing the amount of nicotine in our example down to .09ml per bottle 5ml(teaspoon full) / .09ml(2 pack a day smoker level of e-juice on 20 watt or better mod) = 55 bottles or $666 dollars worth of juice. So yes if you have $666 worth of juice laying around and a 6 year old who can’t face another day in this mad world be concerned. Illness / addiction being exposed to these things are real. So I do not want to put our own version of half truths. Hey I don’t smoke I do not use nicotine so a .3% the lowest level usually available still makes me a bit sick. I am certain there are people even children would have a drastic reaction to large doses of nicotine. Since a heavy dose will make you sick you would have to power through and deliberately be trying to commit suicide to achieve this effect. Hey I get it your kid got into your stuff, you didn’t secure it so they wouldn’t. I use to jimmy the freezer lock with a butter knife to steal fudge pops
Nicotine has a use, but its effects are highly addictive. The Press release keeps referring to the number of calls they have concerning exposure as increasing. Well the number of vapors have increased at the same rate as the calls. Since when did calling someone for advice mean that you have anything more than a concern? My concern as a business owner is the 30 million who think they already know it all not the 1500 who called for advice. So while creating safety for that 30 million who are not having a problem or concern there is definitely an overreach by those who do not want to be regulated.
Benefits to Nicotine
Over the past decade, new research has taught us more about how nicotine affects the brain and the body. Some of it is good news — for example, a lower incidence of Alzheimer’s disease in smokers. Research has pointed to a compound called acetylcholine as the reason. Nicotine is structurally similar to acetylcholine, a naturally-occurring compound that serves as a neurotransmitter. Nicotine binds to nerve receptors and makes nerve cells fire more frequently. In one study, a group of Alzheimer’s patients were given nicotine patches, while another received a placebo. Those with nicotine patches maintained their cognitive abilities longer and sometimes even recovered lost cognitive function. A follow-up study indicated that nicotine may also boost cognitive abilities in elderly people who aren’t suffering from Alzheimer’s but who are experiencing the typical mental decline associated with old age.
The transformation with nicotine happened when the nicotine patch was introduced. Intended to help smokers quit, the nicotine patch also opened up a whole new way of studying the drug. Suddenly scientists had a reliable delivery system — one without the numerous carcinogens found in cigarettes — that could be standardized across various studies. A 1982 study revealed that patients with ulcerative colitis had fewer flare-ups when taking nicotine. However, side effects proved nicotine to be a poor long-term treatment. This problem was mostly due to the patch itself. Early patches didn’t regulate the nicotine release very well. New electronics promises the ability to control Nicotine with both wattage and duration of the inhale, puff counters are starting to appear on mods to remind people how many puffs they have had that day. There is not one law even in discussion to require this movement to better equipment. it is purely market desire and market response to that desire.
As someone with diabetes finding out that in 2000, a study performed at Stanford revealed surprising results about nicotine’s effects on blood vessels. Contrary to popular opinion, the study showed that nicotine actually boosts the growth of new blood vessels. The discovery may lead to new treatments for diabetes. Many people with severe diabetes experience poor circulation, which can lead to gangrene and ultimately, limb amputation.
In 2006, Duke scientists found that people with depression who were treated with nicotine patches reported a decrease in their depressive feelings. The results were perhaps not surprising for a drug associated with imparting a “buzz.” However, the research also showed a direct link between nicotine and an increase in the release of dopamine and serotonin, two vital neurotransmitters. A lack of dopamine or serotonin is a common cause of depression.
Again its a fear that people will self-diagnose and take up vaping or smoking because of other issues. The face is you should never google your symptoms and look at WebMD (the answer always might be cancer see a doctor)
Doctors have been fed the Anti-smoke anti-nicotine mantra for decades now and large portions of their practice are funded via the legal settlements from tobacco companies. That doesn’t mean we all can refuse to use common since and actual science to separate Tax collection from health care or health control for the purpose of tax collection, which the true direction of this massive misdirection. I was completely unaware of the found benefits by renown medical research facilities to the positive use of nicotine until the cross reference of statements by others we sited.
Nicotine is not vitamin B but overdosing Vitamin B will kill you. Keep in mind it was the other 7000 chemicals in cigarettes that took 50 years to kill someone. Nicotine was the just the high and addiction and may of been counteracting the negative effects of cigarette smoking.
